Music by Irish Composers Performed at Dublin's Northside Music Festival

28 July 2008

Enjoy a relaxing summer Sunday afternoon in St. Anne's Park with music by contemporary Irish composers.

The Contemporary Music Centre is taking part in this year's Northside Music Festival, with a performance of new music for guitar in Red Stables, St. Anne's Park, Clontarf, on Sunday, 17 August 2008 at 2pm.

Brendan Walsh, guitarist, will be joined on guitar by Raoul Morat and Ross O'Farrell, along with flautist, Zoe Shannon. The ensemble will perform a number of pieces by contemporary Irish composers Victor Lazzarini and Martin O'Leary, as well as music by Brendan Walsh himself. The composers will be on hand to introduce their pieces, and the members of the audience are invited to voice any comments or questions they may have for the composers.

The ensemble will perform the premiere of a new work for solo guitar by Lazzarini as well as his Paulistana for Flute and Guitar, and Music for 3 Guitars. The programme also includes Maeve's Air for 3 Guitars by O'Leary and 3 pieces for Flute and Guitar by Brendan Walsh.

Brendan Walsh is a music graduate of NUI Maynooth and holds a Masters in Musical Performance from DIT. He has studied guitar with Gwen Moore, Benjamin Dwyer, Raphaella Smits, and John Feeley. Apart from his solo playing he is also interested in ensemble music and is a performing member with the contemporary ensemble EAR. In 2003 he founded and still directs the Maynooth Guitar Orchestra, for which he has composed and arranged extensively.

The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national library and promotional body for new music. The Centre is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
