Notes for Editors

Ian McDonnell
Ian McDonnell is a Dublin based musician and composer. He recently completed a Masters in Music and Media Technology at Trinity College Dublin, where he studied composition with Donnacha Dennehy, Roger Doyle and Fergus Johnston. He has been involved in the electronic music scene in Dublin for many years as one half of duo Lakker (with Dara Smith), and more recently with new project Lomelindi (alongside vocalist Laura Kilty). Recently he performed his electronic work 'New Music for Wind and Metal' at the 'Free State' concert with the Crash Ensemble in November 2006, and a piano and laptop set with composer Roger Doyle at the Project Arts Centre, February 2007. Currently he is working on new music for performance later in the year, and is putting the finishing touches on an album for electronic act Lakker.

Muttermal
Ewan Hennelly (Muttermal) has become one of Ireland's best-known electronic musicians over the past number of years, amassing a considerable catalogue of releases on labels both at home and abroad. While predominantly recording and playing live as Herv, Ewan also composes a very different form of electronic music under the name Muttermal. And, where as Herv's music is very tightly structured and involves a lot of intricate programming, the pieces performed on Culture Night are, for the most part, completely improvised. Ewan also co-runs Irish electronic label "Go Away Recordings".
