For Immediate ReleasePrey Wind Trio at the CMC New Music Salon15 November 2006 The Contemporary Music Centre's next new music Salon on 23 November 2006 features the wind trio, Prey. The event takes place on Thursday, 23 November from 6.30pm - 7.30pm in the Goethe-Institut, 37 Merrion Square, Dublin 2. It includes Triplets by Michael McGlynn, Leaves Loose by John McLachlan and Wind Trio by Peadar Townsend, along with informal discussions. Admission is free and discussions continue informally after the performance. Prey was formed in 2000 by Síle Daly (oboe), Susan Doyle (flute) and Deirdre O'Leary (clarinet). Using unusual combinations of wind instruments, the ensemble play a wide variety of music, and the performers write and arrange a lot of their own repertoire. Much of what the ensemble play is from memory or improvised and they often adapt their performance to suit different venues. While maintaining a sense of occasion, they make audiences feel welcome and at ease, either through audience participation or by talking to their audience about the music or their instruments. The Contemporary Music Centre's new music Salon series has been running since October 2003 and offers an opportunity to hear and discuss contemporary music in an informal atmosphere. The series provides a platform for performers and composers to experiment with new work without the pressures of a formal concert setting. The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national library and promotional body for new music. The Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2006 and this salon is part of a special programme of events throughout the year.
