The Programming of New Music

22 February 2006

What is the best way to programme contemporary music? Not an easy question to answer but an interesting one to debate. To do just this a seminar is being held in the Contemporary Music Centre on Fishamble Street from 2.00pm - 4.00pm on 7 March 2006.

The purpose behind the seminar is to look at the different ways in which new music is currently being programmed and to see what works and what doesn't work.

Fuelling the debate will be presentations from Judith Woodworth (Director, National Concert Hall), Niall Doyle (Executive Director, RTÉ Performing Groups) and Francis Humphrys (Director, West Cork Chamber Music Festival). Speaking from their own experience an attempt will be made to find the best ways to nurture and develop audiences for new music.

Free of charge and open to the general public, the seminar will be attended by key representatives of the music sector who will also contribute to the debate. Refreshments will follow at 4.00pm allowing the opportunity for informal discussion.

"Building on the success of previous seminars in CMC, and a desire to provide a platform for discussion on new music, we look forward to a stimulating debate." says Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, the Contemporary Music Centre.
