For Immediate ReleaseCMCs’ Autumn 2004 Salon EventsDublin, 1 September 2004 The Contemporary Music Centre’s Autumn season of salon events entitled ‘Lost in Bar 20’ begin in September with the first event taking place in the Printing House, Trinity College, Dublin on Friday 17 September at 6.30pm. Harpist Cliona Doris will give informal performances of Ian Wilson’s In Blue Sea or Sky; Donnacha Dennehy’s Curves and Philip Hammond’s A Question of Angels? a recent RTE Lyricfm commission. Clíona Doris is one of Ireland’s leading harpists and has extensive experience as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. She has performed throughout Ireland, Britain, Europe and the United States. Her broadcasts include performances on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Ulster, UTV, RTÉ LyricFM and National Public Radio USA. Clíona is Chairwoman of the Ninth World Harp Congress, which Dublin will host in July 2005. She is a member of the String Faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. CMCs’ salon series, initiated experimentally last autumn in conjunction with the Project Arts Centre, is proving very successful and this Autumn in addition to the September event taking place in the Printing House, Trinity, ‘Lost in Bar 20’ will continue its association with the Project Arts Centre in October and November. Irish composer and guitarist Ben Dwyer and flautist Susan Doyle head the bill in Project on 30 October with a programme of solo and duo works by composers Ben Dwyer, Paul Hayes and Raymond Deane. On 13 November Irish composer and lecturer in music technology and composition Donnacha Dennehy will curate a programme of music from graduate and undergraduate composers of Trinity College. One of the most stimulating aspects of a CMC Salon is the opportunity for discussion in a relaxed atmosphere, the only defining characteristic of the event being that it is 'not a concert'. Audience, performers and composers are all drawn into debate around the music, thus giving one another feedback and exchanging views in a way that rarely happens in new music in Ireland. Admission is free for all events. Further information: Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, telephone 01 – 673 1922 or email:khennessy@cmc.ie |
