For Immediate ReleaseCMC October Salon 2004Dublin, 13 October 2004 Irish composer and guitarist Ben Dwyer and flautist Susan Doyle will perform at the CMC October salon in Project Arts Centre. The salon takes place at 3.00pm on Saturday 30 October 2004. Dwyer and Doyle will play a programme of solo and duo works by composers Donnacha Dennehy, Swerve, Paul Hayes, Non in Fretta and Ben Dwyer himself, Sonata for Flute and Guitar and Étude no.2, no.6 and no.9 from the Twelve Études. Benjamin Dwyer studied music at the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and at Trinity College, Dublin. He continued his studies in guitar at the Royal Academy of Music, London and was awarded an MMus by the University of London. Following initial studies in composition with John Buckley, he was awarded a full scholarship to study at Queen’s University, Belfast at doctoral level. His music has been featured in the 1995 ISCM World Music Days in Moldova, the 1999 Festival of Electro-acoustic Music at Skinnskattesberg, Sweden, and in festivals all over Ireland. Benjamin Dwyer is a regular broadcaster on national radio and is artistic director of the Bank of Ireland Mostly Modern concert series and the new music group Vox 21. He now shares his time and work between Spain and Ireland. Susan Doyle studied flute at the College of Music, Dublin and the Istituto Luigi Boccherini, Lucca, Italy, under Marzio Conti, where she graduated with first class honours in performance. As well as teaching at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, she performs solo and chamber concerts both in Ireland and in music festivals throughout Europe and the US. She also plays regularly with the National Symphony Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra, Opera Theatre Company, and the Irish Ballet Orchestra. Susan is actively involved in contemporary music in Ireland and is a core member of the Crash Ensemble and Vox 21. She performs annually in the Bank of Ireland Mostly Modern Series and the RTE Living Music Festival, both as a soloist and chamber musician. Susan is also a member of Prey Trio and Harmonie Wind Quintet. Within music education she is involved in the National Concert Hall Outreach Programme and the Music Network Music in Healthcare Programme. The CMC salon series, initiated experimentally last autumn in conjunction with Project Arts Centre, is proving very successful both with composers as a platform for gaining informal feedback on their music, and with performers as an opportunity to try out new repertoire in a relaxed atmosphere. For the growing audience, one of the most stimulating aspects is the opportunity to ask questions – whether technical or philosophical - and be drawn into debate around the music. Admission is free and all are welcome. Discussions continue informally after the performances. Further information from Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, email: khennessy@cmc.ie CMC’s salon performances are made possible by the support of the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. CMC would like to acknowledge the support of Project Arts Centre in making the venue available. |
