Press ReleaseNew CMC Talks SeriesDublin, 1 May 2002 The Contemporary Music Centre has initiated a new series of monthly talks in its home in Fishamble Street. Addressing both musical and practical issues, the series includes composers speaking about their music as well as talks given by experts in various legal and technical areas of concern to those working in music. The practical, career-oriented sessions in the series will be of interest to composers or those professionally engaged in music. These include a talk by solicitor Linda Scales, Solicitor and Donal McGuirk, IMRO on copyright and contracts to take place in 28 May 2002. Later in the year, there will be sessions on what composers can do to help promote their own work, and a demonstration of Sibelius music software. On 11 June, Northern Irish composer Deirdre McKay, now turning thirty and therefore losing the tag of ‘young composer’, speaks about her music, and on 24 September James Wilson, the doyen of Irish composers, will be in conversation with TV producer Anne Makower. These Birthday Interviews, the first of which took place on 25 April with composer John Kinsella, just turning seventy, in conversation with journalist Michael Dungan, will be of interest to a wide audience and will include question and answer sessions allowing listeners to engage directly with the composer. Talks take place in the CMC Library from 6.30–7.30pm and admission is free. Due to limited space, places should be booked in advance with Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, tel. 01-673 1922 or email khennessy@cmc.ie. This event is made possible by the continued support of The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. The Contemporary Music Centre is based in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter, Temple Bar. Located in the heart of the capital city, Temple Bar is home to more than fifty arts and cultural organizations. To find out more, check out the Temple Bar Cultural Calendar www.templebar.ie. |
