CMC Opportunities

Representation at CMC
The Centre documents and promotes contemporary Irish music. It assists composers by holding their compositions in an archive, making copies available to the public and, where possible, encouraging and facilitating performances nationally and internationally. Any composer working in the area of concert or 'serious' music who was born or is permanently domiciled in Ireland may apply to the Contemporary Music Centre for representation.

Fee Guidelines for Concert Music Commissions
The Contemporary Music Centre and the Association of Irish Composers have drawn up a set of fee guidelines for use in conjunction with new music commissions. While advisory rather than mandatory, the guidelines are based on 'the going rate' for commissions in other art forms and jurisdictions and should provide a useful benchmark for anyone involved in the commissioning process, whether as composer or commissioner. There is also a useful checklist of issues which should be discussed by all parties and agreed in writing at the outset of any commissioning process.

Archival Recordings Scheme
CMC's Archival Recordings Scheme, again supported by Arts Council funding, allows recordings of works by Irish composers to be made for archival purposes which would otherwise not be recorded from any other source (e.g. for a radio broadcast or a CD). Composers, performers or venues may contact CMC for inclusion in the scheme, although due to budget constraints it is not always possible to respond to every application.

CMC/IMRO Copying Fund
This scheme exists to assist in meeting the costs of preparing instrumental parts for performances of works by Irish composers. It is administered by the Contemporary Music Centre and funded by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO). Awards are normally in the region of 500. Deadlines for applications are 5.30 pm on the fifteenth day of each quarter (January 15, April 15, July 15, October 15) or, if this falls on a weekend or public holiday, the next following working day.
