In an increasingly fast-changing web environment it can be difficult to keep up to date with the continuous flow of information. RSS is a technology that helps solve this problem.

RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'. It allows you to keep up to date with new content added to your favourite web site without having to go to the site and search for it yourself. Increasingly 'RSS feeds', as they are called, are being used by the major international news and information sites to take you straight to the latest items.

How do I use RSS?

You need a news reader. This allows you to see and subscribe to any RSS feeds you are interested in.

The news reader can be either a web browser or a downloadable application. Some web browsers such as Firefox, Opera and Safari already have RSS as a built-in feature, so if you're using one of these for your Internet access, you're ready to go. If not, there are several special applications which you can download free depending on which operating system you're using.
