Sound Investment in Music

The Arts Council has made funding available for music recording in 2009.

The Music Recording Scheme will be managed by Music Network and provides support for performers and composers of recognised ability working primarily in non-commercial genres. A total award fund of €71,500 is available in 2009 and awards of up to €10,000 will be made.

The aim of the scheme is to ensure that the work of Irish composers and performers is available other than in live performance, and to ensure that important or neglected materials of Irish music are preserved and disseminated to the highest professional standard.

Successful artists in previous years have included contemporary classical composers Donnacha Dennehy, Kevin Volans, Ian Wilson and Ronan Guilfoyle, as well as classical ensembles and solo artists such as Izumi Kimura, William Dowdall, Ensemble Avalon, Fidelio Trio and the Carducci Quartet.

Further information, application packs and guidelines are available from Music Network, tel. 01-671 9429.
Closing date: Monday 5 October 2009, 5:30 pm.
