Music for Harp and Guitar
A concert on 28 March features works by Anne-Marie O’Farrell and John Buckley. The performance, at Sandford Parish Church, Ranelagh, Dublin, is given by the Kylemore Harp Ensemble, director Anne-Marie O’Farrell, with soloist Pavlos Kennellakis (guitar). In addition to pieces by Bach, Boccherini, Sor and others, it includes O’Farrell’s harp pieces, Chorale Variations on ‘Take my Life and Let it Be’, Carolan’s Farewell to Music and Heir Conditioning and The Heather Jig, performed by the composer herself. The fourth movement of John Buckley’s Sonata No. 2 will be played by Pavlos Kennellakis. Anne-Marie O’Farrell and Nuala Hayes have recently received Deis funding through the Arts Council for her to compose harp music for a presentation of stories and literature about the old Celtic goddess/woman/witch figure, the cailleach. This will be presented in the Bealtaine Festival in May, together with other related settings. Harp and Guitar Recital, Saturday 28 March 2009, 8.00pm. Posted: 15 March 2009
