New Sound Worlds 2009
Further concerts in the New Sound Worlds series are coming up in the NCH. The first concert on 10 November is a portrait concert of Helmut Lachenmann, one of the most significant composers of our time. Highlights include the Irish premiere of Lachenmann's Got Lost and also a work by his teacher, Luigi Nono. Performers Sarah Leonard (soprano) and Rolf Hind (piano) will discuss their working relationship with Lachenmann. On 17 November, a concert titled 'The Medical Composers' features works by composers who also happen to have had careers in the medical field. Eli-Paul Cohen's work draws directly from his experiences in the operating theatre. The concert also includes Derek Ball's Xolotl, featuring Gabriel Rosenstock. On 24 November, 'Contra culture' features two members of the US-based chamber ensemble, Argento: Carol McGonnell (clarinets) and Erin Lesser (flutes). Their programme includes the premiere of young Irish composer Ann Cleare's Eyam for contrabass clarinet and electronics as well as works by Luigi Nono, Philipe Hurel, Allain Gaussain and Beat Furrer. The final event on 1 December is a portrait concert of the unique works of Irish composer and experimental vocalist Jennifer Walshe, presented by the composer herself. New Sound Worlds 2009.
