CMC New Noise Marathon
The Contemporary Music Centre presents its annual student new music marathon at Queen's University Belfast on Saturday 9 May. Taking place in the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), this is the first time that the CMC new music marathon takes place in Northern Ireland, and the area will be well represented with students from Queen's University and the University of Ulster taking part. Composition and performance students from University College Cork (UCC,) Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University of Limerick (UL), Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music (DIT) are also travelling to Belfast to participate. The day takes the form of a sequence of short concerts with an eclectic mix of new instrumental, electro-acoustic and electronic music, all programmed by Professor Michael Alcorn, composer and Head of the School of Music and Sonic Arts at Queens University. The marathon provides students with a valuable opportunity to have their work performed in public, as well as the chance to meet their peers and discover the trends in new music in different institutions around the country. The annual Sonorities festival takes place at SARC on 10 May thereby allowing students to experience further new music over the weekend. Further information: Aoife FitzPatrick, Administration and Promotion Officer, The Contemporary Music Centre, email afitzpatrick@cmc.ie, tel. +353(0)1-673 1922. Admission to all concerts during the day is free. The Contemporary Music Centre is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. CMC would like to acknowledge the support of the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Queen's University Belfast, in making the venue available. Posted: 27 April 2009
