Dublin Sound Lab New Music Festival '09
CMC collaborates with Dublin Sound Lab for its New Music Festival '09. This year's festival features a performance on 26 November of contemporary French and Italian music for viola and electronics by Garth Knox, the leading international exponent of new music for viola. Garth gives a pre-concert talk on the music, which includes one of his own compositions, in the Contemporary Music Centre and the performance takes place in nearby St Werburgh's Church. The second concert, on 28 November, features new music for harpsichord and electronics from around the world performed by Michael Quinn (harpsichord) and Fergal Dowling (computer/electronics). This includes works by Irish composers Ailís Ní Ríain and Fergal Dowling, who is also the organiser of the festival. Dublin Sound Lab is a contemporary music performance group specialising in new electro-acoustic music and computer-mediated performance. It was formed in 2008 by organist Michael Quinn and composer Fergal Dowling to promote and perform new and established works by Irish and international composers. The concerts take place at St Werburgh's Church, Werburgh St, Dublin 8 on 26 and 28 November at 8.00 pm, with a pre-concert talk in CMC on 26 November at 5.30pm.
