New Irish Choral Music
The library of the Contemporary Music Centre has a wide selection of new music for choir. With the closing date for entries to the 2010 Cork International Choral Festival coming up on 31 January, the Centre has put together selected lists of choral works by Irish composers at different levels of difficulty. These range from very accessible pieces suitable for school or less experienced amateur choirs, through works of moderate difficulty, to the more challenging repertoire which will be of interest to top-level groups. These lists are available for downloading, and further information on all the composers can be found in the Irish Composers section of this site. The Contemporary Music Centre awards a special trophy each year at the Cork Choral Festival for the best performance of an Irish work written after 1975. The elegant modern trophy in silver and wood was specially commissioned from young Irish silversmith Annette Lappin. Staff at the Centre are very happy to advise choral conductors on the selection of works, all of which of which are available for browsing -- many with matching recordings -- in the library. If it is not possible to visit in person, inspection copies may be obtained on request. Choral sets are available for purchase at very reasonable prices.
