Music Network/Arts Council Recording Awards

Music Network has announced funding to ten recording projects.

The Contemporary Music Centre is among those successful, with an award towards the cost of its next promotional CD, Contemporary Music from Ireland Volume 9.

Other successful applicants are Ian Wilson to record three recent chamber works; Louth Contemporary Music Society, to record recent compositions by Arvo Pärt and John Tavener; Crash Ensemble, for a work by Kevin Volans; Diatribe Records, to record CDs with four leading string players; and the National Chamber Choir, to record recent works by 20th and 21st century Irish composers.

Further awards have gone to Camerata Kilkenny for an early music CD, to pianist Finghín Collins to record piano music by Stanford, and to traditional musician Dónal Donnelly.

The Music Network/Arts Council Music Recording Scheme is funded by the Arts Council and managed by Music Network in lieu of the Arts Council's own Music Recording Scheme. The scheme aims to provide support for professional performers and composers in Ireland through awarding funding for music recording.

The aim of this scheme is to ensure that the work of Irish composers and performers is available other than in live performance, and to ensure that important or neglected materials of Irish music are preserved and disseminated to the highest professional standard. The scheme aims to assist in the production and dissemination of audio or video recordings. It intends to support work by performers and composers and performers of recognised ability working primarily non-commercial genres. For this round the panel allocated a total of €71,500 to 10 applicants.

Further information is available from Music Network.
