Garth Knox Talk at CMC
Leading viola expert Garth Knox gives a talk in CMC on 26 November. As in every other domain of contemporary life, computers play an increasingly important role in music making, both in the compositional process, and in live performance. In Computers and Music—friends or enemies? Garth Knox, an international exponent of contemporary music for the viola, discusses these new possibilities and relationships with especial emphasis on live electronics combined with live instruments. The talk takes place at 5.30pm in the CMC library in advance of his concert in neighbouring St Werburgh's Church at 8.00pm. It will be of interest to all string players and to anyone involved in composition using both acoustic and electro-acoustic instruments. The concert of contemporary French and Italian music for viola and electronics features one of his own compositions and takes place as part of the Dublin Sound Lab New Music Festival '09. For concert details please see the Calendar. Further information: Róisín Savage, Promotion Intern, Contemporary Music Centre. Email rsavage@cmc.ie or tel. 01-673 1922. Posted: 24 November 2009
