The Rising Sons of Lee Marvin

The Rising Sons of Lee Marvin

Composer Brian Irvine and his band The Rising Sons of Lee Marvin perform in Belfast on 26 March.

A kind of Captain Beefheart big band meets Efterklang meets Cameo meets the wrong Beach Boys meets The Thing, The Rising Sons of Lee Marvin is the mutant alter ego of the widely acclaimed 13-piece Brian Irvine Ensemble.

Currently associate composer with the Ulster Orchestra and a former recipient of the BBC Radio 3 Jazz Award and British Composers Award, The Rising Sons is Brian’s new musical love tank -- armed, poised and keen to get on with the business of messing up vast stretches of air with some altered music smoke for your inspection and/or amusement. Presenting a brand new catalogue of songs that will make your index finger groove and your mental overtones rumble, The Rising Sons will take you on a wild journey through the beautiful love-filled oddballness of life as part of the 2009 Moving On Music festival.

Featuring some of the UK’s most acclaimed and virtuosic musicians working in all dimensions of music from contemporary classical, jazz, pop and beyond, The Rising Sons is a song band like no other, fusing heavy head bobbing beats with improvisation, riffs and word vocals like the sound of Viking moon angels.
