ICC Creating New Music Communities
The Irish Composers' Collective visits the University of York on 4 July. The visit, which comprises a day of concerts, talks, and listening sessions under the banner Creating New Music Communities, is hosted by a number of guest curators. Two composers' surgeries will be hosted by Kevin Malone (University of Manchester) and Roger Marsh (University of York). Three concerts of new Irish music will be played by performers from Dublin, London, Manchester, Durham, Glasgow, Huddersfield and York. Creating New Music Communities is an initiative begun by Irish composer Peter Moran for the Irish Composers' Collective and the York Spring Festival of New Music 2008. This series of concerts and careers talks provides an opportunity for young composers, performers and musicologists to collaborate, share ideas and create opportunities. Bringing together young musicians from around Ireland and Britain, the series has already set a number of young artists on their professional path with the commissions and international performances which have come of these collaborations.
