Hamilton at MATA Festival in New York
A new work by Andrew Hamilton has been commissioned by the 2009 MATA festival in New York. The work, called Product No. 1, will be performed by The Knights on 31 March. The MATA festival of new music is an important focus for emerging artists from around the world. Over four nights from 31 March to 4 April, audiences will hear music by some of today's best up-and-coming young composers performed by So Percussion, NOW Ensemble, The Knights, Ne(x)tworks, Bing and Ruth and Sawako. Under the new leadership of Executive Director Missy Mazzoli and Artistic Director Christopher McIntyre (dynamic composer/performers in their own right) MATA's programming this year features six world premieres (including four MATA commissions), two U.S. premieres, and four New York premieres. Andrew Hamilton was chosen to receive a commission from hundreds of hopefuls residing in 20 countries. The Knights, described as ‘a fellowship of young musicians of diverse and accomplished backgrounds who come together for the shared joy of musical exploration’ are one of New York’s leading new music ensembles.
