Flynn's International Performances in 2009
Composer David Flynn's music is to reach a wider international audience in the first half of 2009. David was recently in New York where he was interviewed by leading new music broadcaster John Schaefer for a special Irish edition of Newsounds on WNYC, the largest public radio station in the USA. The show is to be broadcast on 17 March and will feature several of Flynn's compositions. An earlier edition of the programme on 28 January broadcast works by Donnacha Dennehy, Michael McGlynn and Daniel Figgis as well as one of Flynn's compositions, with performances by Ioana Petcu-Colan, Crash Ensemble and Anúna. In March, David's music will be heard in Romania and the Czech Republic. He and the violinist Ioana Petcu-Colan will perform a concert of almost exclusively new Irish music on 17 March in the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Cluj, Romania. The concert will include works by Jerome de Bromhead (premiere), Greg Caffrey, Scott McLaughlin, Ian Wilson and himself. On 18 March, David travels to Prague where the Prague Chamber Orchestra gives the premiere of his string orchestra piece, Echoes of Bamako as part of the Prague Premieres festival.
