Flynn in New York
David Flynn's music features in the prestigious Summergarden series at New York's Museum of Modern Art on 19 July. The opportunity arose through contacts between CMC and one of the series' programmers, Dr Joel Sachs of New York's Juilliard School of Music. Flynn's String Quartet No.2, 'The Cranning' (2004-05) will receive its US premiere from the young virtuosi of the New Juilliard Ensemble, in a programme which also includes works by Boguslaw Schaeffer, Jörg Widmann and Daniel Bernard Roumain. The Museum of Modern Art established Summergarden in 1971 to enhance the artistic life of New York City during the summer. The 'New Music for New York' series presents four evenings of adventurous contemporary music which has never been heard in New York before. The concerts, which are free, take place outdoors in the Sculpture Garden and regularly attract audiences of 600-700 people. With the support of Culture Ireland, David Flynn will be travelling to New York to attend the performance. Juilliard Concert II: New Music for String Quartet. Posted: 25 June 2009
