CMC's Schools Workshops Continue
The second series of CMC's New Music Alive workshops in schools are running throughout February and March. Facilitated by composer Peter Moran and funded by Dublin City Council, the workshops involve children in Scoil Caitríona in Baggot Street in central Dublin. The sessions are designed to introduce students to contemporary music and to teach them about the processes involved in composition. They are exploring the ideas of graphic notation and composing their own music, which will be performed and recorded at the end of the process. An important part of the project, which commenced with pupils of St Enda's National School last autumn, is the development of a workbook which will be made availablt to teachers to encourage and assist them in bringing contemporary music into the classroom. New Music Alive is an initiative of the Contemporary Music Centre and funded by Dublin City Council.
