CMC Salon Series Returns
CMC's Salon series continues in November. It's that time of year again when composers, performers and audiences come out to experience the best in contemporary Irish music. The annual CMC Salon series offers an opportunity to listen and discuss, question and give feedback. For its sixth series, CMC has organised an exciting line-up for Autumn 2009. The first Salon takes place in the National Concert Hall on 5 November with the Spatial Music Collective. This is a group of ten composers with a shared interest in the musical use of space. Their performance features works by Enda Bates, Jonathan Nangle and Linda Buckley, and they will also talk about spatial music and what it means to them.
The series continues in the Goethe Institute on Merrion Square, firstly with Kevin Hanafin (saxophone) and guest Redmond O'Toole (Brahms guitar) on 12 November and concluding with the Cashell Trio (violin, cello and piano) on 19 November 2009. Kevin Hanafin is a regular performer with the RTÉ Concert and National Symphony Orchestras and is also a member of the Crash Ensemble and Riverdance as well as a keen educator. He and Redmond O'Toole will be playing works by Greg Caffrey, Eibhlis Farrell and Ian Wilson. The Cashell siblings—Anna, Sophie and Ben—have won much praise for their solo performances and, as well as continuing to pursue their solo careers, they come together to play chamber music as the Cashell Trio. Their programme comprises works by Raymond Deane and Benjamin Dwyer. The CMC Salon series is designed to introduce the newcomer to contemporary music as well as capture the interest of those already familiar with it. Each performance takes place in an informal atmosphere with dialogue encouraged between composers, performers and audience. The Salons take place on three consecutive Thursday evenings from 5 November. The first Salon in the National Concert Hall takes place from 6:30-7:30 pm and the remaining ones in the Goethe Institute take place from 6:00-7:00 pm.
