Irish Choral Music Performed at the Centre Culturel Irlandais
A concert of choral music by Irish women composers takes place at the Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris on 24 June. The concert, which is performed by the chamber choir of the Centre Culturel Irlandais and conductor Jean Charles Leon, will include a performance of Jane O'Leary's Dream Songs, a set of five songs for women's voices composed in 1997 which was a commission from the Dublin Secondary Schoolgirls' Choir. The work includes settings of poems by Brendan Kennelly, W.B. Yeats and Pat Ingoldsby. O'Leary has worked with the choir of the Centre Culturel Irlandais before, and wrote a work based on a Samuel Beckett poem, something there, for them. The work, which was commissioned by RTÉ lyric fm, was premiered in Paris in November 2006. The choir will also sing a work of Mary Kelly, Táimse im' Chodladh.
