Gerald Barry Joins Schott Music
Gerald Barry has joined Schott Music Publishers in London. Following a distinguished 24-year career with Oxford University Press (OUP), Schott Music has now become Barry’s exclusive publisher. Gerald Barry has received commissions from major orchestras, ensembles and performers. Radio stations have also supported him with commissions from the BBC, Radio France, RTE and Hessische Rundfunk, and he was the last composer commissioned by the late renowned arts patron, Betty Freeman. His operas in particular have enjoyed worldwide success with performances at the Aldeburgh Festival, Berliner Festwochen, London, Los Angeles, Paris (Presences Festival), Amsterdam, Basle and New York. His works have been performed in Germany by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra amongst others. His music has been recorded on the NMC, Largo, Black Box, Marco Polo and Challenge labels. OUP will continue to promote Gerald Barry’s backlist of music, while Schott will take on future works. Upcoming projects include an opera, The Importance of Being Earnest, for Los Angeles and London (2011/12); Feldman’s Six-Penny Editions for the London Sinfonietta and St Paul Chamber Orchestra (2011); and, first up, Schott & Sons, Mainz, a co-commission from the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, Ars Nova Copenhagen and Coro Casa da Musica Porto, an account of Beethoven’s relationship with Schott during the last three years of his life.
