York Spring Festival of New Music Young composers from Ireland are taking part in the York Spring Festival of New Music. This special event, supported by Culture Ireland, involves members of the Young Composers' Collective (YCC) as well as 30 performers from around the UK. It takes place on Saturday 10 May and features over a dozen world premieres across two one-hour concerts.
The purpose of this day is to bring these young musicians together so that they can establish networks, which will help bring the new music communities of Ireland and the UK closer in years to come. The performance includes The Stranger on the Southbound Train by Peter Moran, The Well-Tempered Sieve by Scott McLaughlin, Kitchey Schlock by Dylan Rynhart, and Banff 27 by Dónal Sarsfield. Ten other young composers from Ireland are also included in the programme. Speakers on the day include Irish composer Ed Bennett and music careers specialist Pauline Harding. The event runs from 10am to 2pm on 10 May in the Rymer Auditorium at the University of York. It is open to the public and admission is free.
