Public Art Commission for Ian Wilson

Ian Wilson
Ian Wilson

Ian Wilson is to write a new large-scale work for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.

Residents of the Glencullen electoral area are to contribute to the creation of a new 40-minute work by Ian Wilson. Following interviews with the composer their comments will be incorporated into a new, as yet untitled, work which will receive its first public performance in April 2009.

Written for three classically-trained musicians and three musicians with an improvisational background, a recording of the work will also be issued on a free limited edition CD.

Ian Wilson has been commissioned as part of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's Place and Identity project, funded through the Per Cent for Art Programme. In all, €500,000 will be spent creating eight new art works through a series of residencies and one-off projects between now and 2010.
