Sligo New Music Festival 2008

World and Irish premieres are to feature in Sligo New Music Festival's celebration of maverick Dutch composer Jacob TV.

Siobhán Cleary's Conachlann, for string quartet and piano, is to receive its world premiere performance in the Presbyterian Church, Chapel Street, Sligo as part of the third and concluding concert in this year's day-long Sligo New Music Festival on Saturday 20 September. Curated by Ian Wilson, whose own collaboration with Cathal Roche, Boom!, also features in the same 9pm concert alongside works by Horatiu Radulescu, Philip Glass and Jacob TV (including the Irish premiere of The Body of Your Dreams), this year's festival takes place in three new performance spaces.

The festival launches in the Chapel Street Presbyterian Church at 3.30pm with the Irish premiere of Jacob TV's Heartbreakers and music by Stockhausen, Tristan Keuris, Radulescu and Donatoni. A second concert, beginning at 6pm in St Anne's Youth and Community Centre, includes the world premiere of Roche's The Message and music by Erkki-Sven Tüür and Jacob TV.

Curator Ian Wilson describes Jacob TV's music as "fresh and exciting, combining an interest in popular culture with a sophisticated musical language which is nonetheless one of the most accessible in today's contemporary music scene".

Pianist Maria McGarry, saxophonist Cathal Roche and the all-saxophone Amstel Quartet perform in all three concerts.
