First Performance for New Donal Sarsfield Work
The Scottish Ensemble is to premiere Donal Sarsfield’s Between Wood and Water in Aberdeen in November. The work has been developed for performance by the Scottish Ensemble as part of the Society for the Promotion of New Music’s (SPNM) 2008/09 series of events. In April, Sarsfield was chosen by the SPNM to attend the IRCAM Academy (a week-long showcase/tutorial for IRCAM software) in Glasgow with a commission for the present work, co-funded by the Scottish Ensemble, a result of his selection. The piece is the composer’s second electro-acoustic work and is, he says, ‘scored for solo violin, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1 and fixed-media electronics, will be eight-10 minutes in length and aim to have a very natural sound world’. The Scottish Ensemble will perform the work in Queen’s Cross Church, Albyn Place, Aberdeen on Monday 17 November at 7.30pm as part of this year’s SOUND Festival. For details, please see our calendar.
