RTÉ lyric fm Music Commissions

RTÉ lyric fm has commissioned a number of new works from Irish composers during 2008.

David Byers, Jennifer Walshe, Siobhán Cleary and Bill Whelan have composed four test pieces for the 2009 AXA Dublin International Piano Competition, which takes place in May 2009. These pieces will be published by the Contemporary Music Centre as part of its Piano Album series in the New Year.

Other works commissioned by the station this year include Jürgen Simpson's Sigilum and a five-minute work for soprano, mezzo-soprano and piano by Ian Wilson.

RTÉ lyric fm has an ongoing policy of commissioning new work by composers born or based in Ireland. Proposals for 2009 commissions can be submitted from December 2008 onwards. Particularly welcome are proposals for short solo or chamber works, as well as proposals for co-commissions with other institutions, festivals or ensembles.

For further details, please see our opportunities section.
