CMC Publishes Recording Report
The Contemporary Music Centre has published a feasibility study looking at ways to develop the recording of music in Ireland. The report, Music Recording: Captured and Released, was commissioned as part of a strategic planning process which CMC has engaged in over the last two years, resulting in a new strategic plan for the organization for the years 2009-2011. With the assistance of funding from the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, the report analysed current activity in recordings of so-called ‘non-commercial’ music, researched international models of best practice and, within the context of a rapidly-changing environment in the record industry, came up with a series of recommendations for the strategic development of recording in Ireland. Feedback is now sought in response to the key proposals, which are the establishment of a new recording label and, in parallel, a digital download platform to draw together a range of specialist or non-commercial musics (contemporary, early Irish classical, jazz, electronic, etc). The report recommends that these enterprises be set up under the aegis of the Contemporary Music Centre but, as in the case of successful models abroad, with distinct identities and independent artistic policies. Please download the report and post your responses using the form below. CMC will engage in further consultation in the new year. Please post your responses to the recording feasibility study. |
