Queen's Festival Sees Two World Premieres by Northern Irish Composers

Brian Irvine
Brian Irvine

Brian Irvine and Peter Rosser will have pieces premiered at the forthcoming Queens Festival in Belfast by New York-based Irish pianist Isabelle O'Connell on Friday 24th October.

The performance of two world premieres; A Celebration of the work of Australia's greatest sculptor by Brian Irvine, and Dead Body by Peter Rosser, will take place at the recently refurbished Meter House at the Ormeau Road Gasworks.

Presented in association with Batik Creative Design, the evening, entitled: Dead Body at the Meter House will mark a new development in concert halls in Belfast, combining cutting-edge interior design alongside new chamber music.

Isabelle O'Connell, originally from Dublin, regularly performs music by many Irish composers. In 2007, she was co-Artistic Director of New Music, New Ireland, New York, a concert showcasing contemporary Irish composers at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall. As part of this event, she performed a specially-commissioned piece by Donnacha Dennehy.

The full programme includes The Last Temptation of Arnold Schoenberg (2005) by Peter Rosser and Junk Genius: The Klippel Collection for piano by Brian Irvine.

The concert begins at 8pm, Friday October 24th. Tickets available from Queen's Festival Booking Office Tel. (0044) 2890 971197, or available online at www.belfastfestival.com.
