New Notes: Two Music Commissions for String Quartet

ConTempo
ConTempo String Quartet

CMC is awarding two commissions for string quartet.

Following on from the success of the collaborative project New Music Connects in 2007, CMC is launching New Notes. Submissions are sought for two new eight-minute pieces for the Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo String Quartet.

The successful applicants will participate in two workshops with the quartet over the course of the project, allowing them to work through their pieces with the performers. The composers will then visit two schools each with the quartet in the Dublin-Meath and Galway-Roscommon areas. The purpose of these visits is to engage second-level students in the process of composition and to generate anticipation for the performance of these new pieces.

New Notes is funded by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon's Project: New Work Award 2008. The deadline for applications is Friday 5 September 2008. For more information see our Opportunities section or contact Aoife FitzPatrick, Promotion Officer, The Contemporary Music Centre, 19 Fishamble Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 8, telephone 01-673 1922 or email afitzpatrick@cmc.ie.
