Music from Poland
Concorde is to celebrate the music of two contemporary Polish composers at the National Gallery of Ireland. To coincide with the final day of the National Gallery’s Paintings from Poland exhibition Concorde will perform three concerts of twentieth-century Polish music at the Dublin venue on 27 January. The half-hour-long concerts will take place at intervals between 2pm and 5pm and feature music by Henry Górecki and Marta Ptaszynska, whose 1975 work for two percussionists, Mobile, will be heard in two different versions. The four Górecki works to be performed date from the period 1990-97 and all draw inspiration from national, religious and folk traditions. Concorde’s line-up for the day include founder director and pianist Jane O’Leary, soprano Tina Verbecke, Madeleine Staunton (flute), Elaine Clarke (Violin) and Richard O’Donnell and Roberto Oliviera (percussion). The ensemble will also be presenting a free concert of new music at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Square North, Dublin at noon on 10 February, when the programme will include the first public performance of a Concorde commission from Christopher Norby, who is currently completing his PhD at the University of Ulster.
