New Organ Work from Gerry Murphy

Gerry Murphy
Gerry Murphy

A new piece for organ by Gerry Murphy is premiered on 31 August.

The piece, Variations on an Original Theme, has been newly commissioned for organist Una Russell, lecturer in organ and academic studies at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. She performs the piece in the penultimate concert of the Summer Organ Concert Series at St. Michael’s Church in Dun Laoghaire.

As well as Murphy’s piece the programme includes Rheinberger's Suite for violin and organ, and the Devil's Trill Sonata by Tartini, performed by violinist David O’Doherty.

The Summer Organ Concert Series has been running since 1974 and presents an organ concert every Sunday from June to September. The series is Ireland’s longest running organ recital series and one of the longest running concert series in Ireland’s musical diary.

The performance of Variations on an Original Theme takes place at 8pm in St. Michael’s Church, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire. Full further details, please see our calendar or visit www.dunlaoghaireorganconcerts.ie.
