First Irish Performance For New Opera
Brian Irvine's Postcards from Dumbworld is to receive a public showcase in Dun Laoghaire on 31 May. Material from Dumbworld, Brian Irvine's first opera since he won a British Composer's Award in 2005 for his Welsh National Opera-produced The Tailor's Daughter, will get a first public outing at the Pavilion Theatre, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire later this month. Developed with funding from the Arts Council in a collaboration between Wexford Festival Opera and the County Down-based Opera Fringe, Postcards from Dumbworld is a 'genre-busting' work-in-progress created by Irvine and the filmmaker John McIlduff and will be performed by the composer's eponymous ensemble and a cast of nine singers. A full production of Dumbworld is scheduled to open in Wexford in Spring 2009. For details see our calendar or visit www.paviliontheatre.ie. Posted: 6 May 2008
