Irish Composers in Brighton

Linda Buckley, Judith Ring, Donnacha Dennehy

Music by Irish composers features at the Soundwaves festival in Brighton in June.

Contemporary music ensemble Scratch the Surface will present a concert involving Irish-based composers and visual artists on 25 June. The concert, which takes place Sallis Benney Theatre, Grand Parade, Brighton, will feature music by Linda Buckley, Judith Ring, and Donnacha Dennehy.

Bringing together composers, visual artists and choreographers to offer a fresh platform for the performance of new music and film, Scratch the Surface is led by Dublin-born artistic-director Conall Gleeson. The group aims to broaden the relationship between music, sound and visual art through the combination of acoustic, electronic, digital instrumentation and technology.

The Soundwaves festival, now in its second year, takes place from 13 to 29 June. The theme of the festival is 'Music outside the box' and will feature performances from a range of new music groups and performers including cellist Anton Lukoszevieze, pianist Rolf Hind, and Apartment House. Scratch the Surface's concert takes place with support from Culture Ireland.
