The Stack Theatre at the CIT Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork is to host a day-long conference organised by the Forum for Music in Ireland (FMI) on 14 January.

The two discussion topics for the day include ‘Music and Enterprise’, which will include contributions from Carmel Dunne, CEO of Ceol Ireland, mezzo-soprano and director of Cork Children’s Chorus Sonya Keogh, Fergus O’Carroll of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Nicholas Carolan, director of the Irish Traditional Music Archive, Music Network CEO Deirdre McCrea, FMC director Angela Dorgan and Rosemary Collier, Head of Music and Opera at the Arts Council.

The second session focuses on ‘The Value of Music and the Arts’. Taking part will be Ian Kilroy, arts editor of the Irish Examiner, and Brendan Hoye, council member of the Irish Marching Bands Association.

The day will also include formal elections to FMI posts and a presentation on the CIT Cork School of Music by its director, Geoffrey Spratt.
