Diffusion 2008 Competition Announced

Details of this year's International Competition for Electroacoustic Music Composition have been released.

Administered by RTÉ lyric fm and Limerick University's Centre for Computational Musicology and Computer Music, the competition is for new works of between eight and 12 minutes duration by composers who are under the age of 35 on 1 June.

Three prizes are being offered, all of which include broadcasts of the winning works on RTÉ lyric fm. The First Prize also includes a concert in late 2008 and a commission worth €3,000 for a new electroscoustic work for broadcast and concert presentation at a later date.

Submitted works should not include any live elements or be computer-generated realisations of conventional instruments and be mixed for surround sound format with a maximum configuration of eight speakers.

This year's judges include the composers Jürgen Simpson and Trevor Wishart, and RTÉ lyric fm's Sarah Blake.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 1 September.

Further details are available at www.rte.ie/lyricfm/nova/1210941.html.
