Composer Scholarship in Romania
An Irish composer will have the chance to travel to Romania through a newly-established scholarship. The Ireland Romania Cultural Foundation promotes understanding between the two countries through cultural exchange. Working in association with the Contemporary Music Centre, it has established a scholarship to enable an Irish composer to work with the distinguished Romanian composer Dan Dediu (b. 1967), professor of composition and rector of the University of Music, Bucharest. The opportunity is intended for composers who have completed their postgraduate composition studies (or gained equivalent musical experience), and who will benefit from mentoring and feedback at a professional level within the lively new music community in Bucharest. The winner will visit Romania four times across 2008/2009 to work with Professor Dediu towards the completion, performance and recording of a new work for his contemporary chamber ensemble, Profil. The scholarship is open to all composers born or permanently domiciled in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered and there is a commission fee of €2,000. Deadline: Monday, 3 November 2008. For details of submission requirements please visit the Opportunities section. Further information: Sinéad O'Sullivan, Office Manager, Contemporary Music Centre.
