CMC in New York
CMC was part of a delegation attending the prestigious Association of Performing Arts Presenters annual meeting in New York recently. With funding from Culture Ireland, Eve O’Kelly, CMC director, and Jonathan Grimes, CMC general manager, had the opportunity to meet and discuss potential projects and exchanges with arts presenters, festivals and performing venues from across the United States as well as from other European countries. These contacts will be used to develop future promotional opportunities for Irish contemporary music in the United States and elsewhere. APAP, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Annual Conference, held in New York each January, is the largest performing arts market in the world and key to securing US performance opportunities for international theatre, dance and music. More than 4,000 US and international programmers, promoters, producers and performers descend on New York for this event. Networking and deal-making in the exhibition halls are complemented by over a thousand theatre, dance and music showcase performances. The Culture Ireland delegation, probably the largest group of leading Irish performing arts organisations ever to travel together on a promotional mission, comprised more than thirty representatives of Irish arts organizations across all genres including theatre, dance, traditional music, contemporary and classical music, and jazz. Apart from the opportunity to make contacts in the US, the event also provided useful networking opportunities among the Irish delegates themselves. The Contemporary Music Centre is sincerely grateful for this funding from Culture Ireland. Subscribe to our monthly email featuring news updates and information about upcoming events.
