CMC in Liverpool
The Contemporary Music Centre's exhibition, The Art of Sound, travels to Liverpool as part of this year's European Capital of Culture programme. To celebrate Liverpool's reign as European Capital of Culture, CMC is taking part in the Liverpool Irish Festival. As part of the festival CMC's exhibition, The Art of Sound, will be on display in the Contemporary Urban Centre, Greenland Street, Liverpool from Thursday 16 October to Saturday 8 November. The Art of Sound is a photographic and multi-media exhibition which gives an insight into the creative processes behind the work of some Irish composers. The exhibition features striking photographic portraits of a number of Irish composers and their music by Irish photographer Eugene Langan. The images are presented alongside an informative audio commentary by Eamonn Lawlor of RTÉ lyric fm. The Contemporary Urban Centre in Liverpool is run by the Novas Scarman Group and there are several of these centres throughout the UK. They aim to reflect the themes of contemporary life in an urban environment through arts and culture. The participation of the Contemporary Music Centre in the Liverpool Irish Festival has been made possible with funding from Culture Ireland and is part of CMC's New Music - New Ireland programme for 2008. The Liverpool Irish Festival takes place from 17 October to 2 November throughout the city of Liverpool, celebrating the links between Liverpool and Ireland.
