Eighth String Quartet by Ian Wilson to Get First Irish Performance
Ian Wilson's eight string quartet is to be performed at the official opening of the Cork School of Music in September. One of five finalists chosen from more than 400 entries to the Second Aberdeen International Music Prize earlier this year, the work, unbroken white line, is to receive its Irish premiere on 14 September. The 10-minute work will be played by The Carducci Quartet as part of a weekend festival to mark the official opening of the new Cork School of Music, situated on Union Quay, Cork. Described by the composer as ‘a fast, energetic work essentially based on the opening motivic figure of one long and two short notes that exercised my imagination and inventiveness.’ It will be heard alongside music by Haydn and Schubert.
