Ian Wilson Premiere at the National Gallery of Ireland

Ian Wilson
Ian Wilson

The premiere of Ian Wilson’s new work The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World takes place on 4 October.

Based on Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s short story, the work is written for narrator and ensemble. The ensemble will feature Carol McGonnell, clarinet, Catherine Leonard, violin, Guy Johnston, cello, and Finghin Collins, piano, with Gavin Friday as narrator. Ian Wilson’s piece, commissioned by the IIB Bank Music in Great Irish Houses Festival with funds provided by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, marks the 80th birthday of Marquez.

Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time will also be performed as part of the concert, ahead of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the French composer in 2008.

The performance will take place in the National Gallery of Ireland, Merrion Square West, Dublin 2, on 4 October at 6.30pm. Tickets are €20 and are available from Tickets Ireland, tel: 1890 305 305 / +353 (0) 53 913 0503 or e-mail info@ticketsireland.ie.
