Premieres at the 2007 WASBE Conference in Killarney
New works by Ian Wilson and John Kinsella feature during the 13th International WASBE conference in July. The International World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) takes place at the Irish National Events Centre, Killarney from 8-14 July will feature bands from 12 countries in 13 concerts and sees first performances of no less than 10 works, including, in the opening concert on 8 July, John Kinsella's Prelude and Toccata, commissioned and performed by the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble under founder-conductor James Cavanagh. An afternoon concert on the conference’s final day will feature the world premiere of Ian Wilson’s Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, a 12-minute work depicting three of the largest moons orbiting the planet Uranus. Commissioned by WASBE, it will be performed by the International Youth Wind Orchestra conducted by Gerhard Markson. Both composers will be interviewed immediately prior to the concerts, and Wilson will lead a Young Composers Workshop in association with CMC on 13 July. Other conference events include masterclasses and workshops, research and repertoire sessions, and a trade show. A free Fringe Festival of daily, open-air concerts performed by Irish and visiting bands will run alongside the conference. For further information see Calendar or visit www.wasbe2007.com.
