Mass of Saint Patrick

Eric Sweeney
Eric Sweeney

Eric Sweeney's new Mass of Saint Patrick will be premiered this month.

Commissioned for the choir of Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, this English version of the Mass is a setting of the normal liturgical movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus/Benedictus and Agnus Dei which are framed by two organ solos, an Introit and Postlude. The solos comment on material in the choral movements and provide 'book ends' for the work.

The commission, funded by the Friends of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, will add to the number of English language settings in the Cathedral’s music repertoire.

Eric Sweeney’s Mass for Saint Patrick will be performed on Saturday 17 March in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and will be broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1.

See Calendar for details.
