Sounds Electric '07
Contemporary Irish and international music is to be the focus of the four-day Dundalk-based Sounds Festival. Leading Irish and European figures in contemporary, acoustic and electronic music are to participate in the festival organised by the Dublin-based composers-and-performers collective Electro Acoustic Revue (EAR) at Dundalk’s Institute of Technology from 20-24 November. The festival will feature a series of concerts and workshops alongside a conference exploring the most recent developments in music technology. The music of five established and emerging Irish composers will be performed in an afternoon concert on 21 November. Featured works include Frank Corcoran’s Sweeney’s Vision and Victor Lazzarini’s Voices Inside & Burial of the Dead in a programme also featuring Sean Gaffey’s Segue, Brian Carty’s Water Study and Mneme by Eoin Smith. Paul Wilson’s Without Words will be performed on 23 November in a recital by Pedro Carneiro of works for percussion and computer. Cellist Lioba Petrie and experimental Northern Irish ensemble Subfusc are to contribute to an evening event on 21 November featuring innovative Norwegian improviser Øyvind Brandtsegg, clarinettist Matt Ingalls and percussion instruments made from fruit and vegetables. A concert of music theatre miniatures composed by Manos Tsangaris especially for Sounds Electric ’07 performed by the EAR Ensemble will close the festival on 24 November.
