Running Beast Performances at the National Gallery
Michael Holohan and Donal O’Kelly’s music-theatre portrait of Hugh O’Neill, Earl of Tyrone, is to be performed at the National Gallery of Ireland. Currently on a European tour, Running Beast features a live eight-piece ensemble performing music composed by Michael Holohan and can be seen at the Merrion Square, Dublin venue on 25 November at 3pm. Running Beast marks the 400th anniversary of the Flight of the Earls into exile from Lough Swilly in County Donegal in September 1607 and tells the story of Hugh O’Neill, one of one of the most powerful and complex personalities in Irish history, against the turbulent backdrop of the failed revolt against Tudor rule. Musicians participating in the production include Michael Holohan on keyboards, percussionist Robbie Harris, bass player Dan Bodwell, Mick O’Brien on uilleann pipes, and a string quartet comprising Máire Breatnach, Steve Larkin, Simone Mendonça and Diane O’Keeffe.
