Composing Degree Launched at RIAM A BA in Composition course develops a new generation of composers. The Royal Irish Academy of Music has welcomed its first students to its newly created four-year BA in Composition course, the first undergraduate programme in Ireland for would-be composers. The course will be led by Dr Kevin O’Connell and Jonathan Nangle and have a maximum intake of four students in any given year. Students on the DCU-accredited course will work closely with RIAM’s performance students and the Academy’s Contemporary Music Ensemble to develop their skills on both a theoretical and practical basis. The course will consider conventional and electro-acoustic compositional techniques and touch upon music from other national traditions. A programme of visiting composers and performers will complement curriculum activities. Further information from www.riam.ie. Posted: 22 October 2007
